Matthew the Apostle was a tax collector called directly by Jesus Christ, one of the Twelve, and the evangelist traditionally associated with the first canonical Gospel. His conversion displays the authority of mercy and the apostolic mission to teach all nations.

Roman Martyrology
Roman Martyrology is the Roman Rite's official liturgical catalogue of saints and blesseds arranged for commemoration through the days of the year.
The Martyrologium Romanum provides brief notices, or elogia, for saints and blesseds on their assigned days and includes norms for liturgical proclamation. The postconciliar typical edition appeared in 2001, followed by a corrected second typical edition in 2004 and subsequent authorized additions.
The Martyrology is broader than the General Roman Calendar: inclusion does not mean that every name has a universal feast or obligatory memorial. Dioceses, nations, institutes, and churches may also maintain approved proper additions.
