The college of consultors is a stable group of priests chosen from the presbyteral council to perform duties assigned by canon law, especially during a vacancy of the diocesan see.[1]
Nature of the office
Its six to twelve members are appointed by the diocesan bishop for five-year terms. The college advises or consents to specified acts and supplies continuity when the wider presbyteral council ceases during a vacancy.
Canonical place
Among its most important duties are electing the diocesan administrator and receiving certain notices connected with episcopal succession. The bishop presides when the see is occupied; during vacancy the one temporarily governing presides.
