Born in Bogotá, D.C., she studied at the Lycée Français Louis Pasteur.

Early life, family and education

Antonella Petro Alcocer was born in Bogotá, D.C., on July 7, 2008, to Verónica Alcocer and Senator Gustavo Petro. She has four siblings: Nicolás, Andrés, Andrea, and Sofía, and a half-brother, Nicolás Alcocer.[1][2] Her name was inspired by the character Antonella in the telenovela Patito Feo by her sister Sofía. She is of Italian descent on both her mother's and father's sides. Petro is fluent in Italian, English, German, and Chinese.

Petro moved to the Casa de Nariño on August 7, 2022, after her father's presidential inauguration, at the age of 14. She witnessed her father's political career from the age of three. She accompanied her parents for the first time on the 2018 presidential campaign when she was just 10 years old.

Public life

After moving into the Casa de Nariño , Antonella and her family were subjected to intense public scrutiny by the press. In November 2023, during a soccer match in Barranquilla, Petro was subjected to insults and boos from some spectators, which his father later described as an act of cowardice.[3][4]

As a security measure, it was suggested that Antonella move out of the country, which her father later described as persecution. Antonella herself rejected this option, stating that fleeing would never be the solution to problems.[5]
