Particular Council
A particular council is a plenary or provincial assembly of bishops and other designated members convened to provide jointly for the pastoral needs of a territory.
Nature of the office
A plenary council serves all particular churches of an episcopal conference; a provincial council serves those of an ecclesiastical province. Within the limits of law it can exercise governing, especially legislative, power for its territory.[1]
Canonical place
A plenary council requires approval of the Apostolic See before convocation. Decrees of either form must be reviewed by the Apostolic See before promulgation and bind only after lawful promulgation.
